Tetragrammaton, יהוה
This is the Four-lettered name of God; the one often (incorrectly) pronounced Jehovah. The letters are distributed over the Four Worlds:
|
|
Atziluth |
y |
Yod |
Spirit of God |
Father |
Kether/Chokmah |
|
Briah |
h |
Heh |
The Waters |
Mother |
Binah |
|
Yetzirah |
w |
Vav |
The Firmament dividing the Waters |
Son |
Chesed – Yesod |
|
Assiah |
h |
Heh |
The Waters below the Firmament |
Daughter |
Malkuth |
|
Because the nature of Kether is Unity, only the uppermost point of the Yod is truly attributed to it; the remainder is attributed to Briah (to Chokmah, when the Worlds are distributed over one Tree). ‘Vav’ means ‘a pin’, or ‘a nail’ – which here connects the two letters Heh. It can also mean either ‘and’ or ‘but’ – depending on context – and is another sign of connection. Its numerical value is 6, and it is distributed over the 6 Sephiroth of Yetzirah. This might become a little clearer when we discuss the Veil of Paroketh. |
